American Express Credit CardsIn 1958 American Express credit cards entered the industry after the launch of the Diners Club card, and American Express became an instant hit. In 1999 American Express launched their Blue card series which became very popular among young adults due to no annual fee, a rewards program and multifunctional onboard chip.
American Express, often abbreviated as Amex, was founded in 1850 as an express delivery business. In 1882 American Express entered the financial world by launching its money order business to compete with the money order service offered by the US Post Office. In 1891 American Express launched their travelers check service after William Fargo had a hard time obtaining cash on a trip to Europe despite being the president of American Express and having traditional letters of credit.
