Prepaid credit cards offer a multitude of advantages over traditional credit cards, particularly for people who are working to rebuild or establish their credit scores. The transactions made with your Western Union Prepaid card are not reported to the credit bureaus, and it does not show up as “available credit” on your credit report.

The Western Union Prepaid MasterCard gives the convenience of a card with the MasterCard logo, and the ability to control your finances with ease.

It’s like using cash, only better! You can put money on your card at any participating Western Union agent location within the United States, and you can even have your paycheck direct deposited onto your card. Direct deposit will save you the $4.95 monthly fee for using the Western Union Prepaid MasterCard, and so it is highly recommended! You can have unlimited direct deposits made to your card each month, but your total account balance must not exceed $2,500.

Your Western Union prepaid credit card gives you the ability to shop online anywhere MasterCard debit cards are accepted. Try doing that with cash! You can also check your account balance online, or by phone- which helps you keep track of your spending.

You do not need to have a bank account in order to obtain a Western Union Prepaid MasterCard even if you plan to use direct deposit. You can use the card like a credit card at retailers and online, or you can withdraw cash from an ATM as needed- up to $500 each day.

If you accidentally try to make a purchase that is more than the available balance on your card, it will typically be declined. At times, merchants put transactions through without a prior authorization, in which case you will be charged $25 for an overdraft fee.
