The Platinum Business Cash Rebate card from American Express' OPEN small business program is a good card for those who need to take advantage of a low APR, and who could benefit from a good rebate deal.
The big selling point of the Platinum Business Cash Rebate Card from OPEN is the cash-back reward. For purchases made with the card, American Express gives up to 2.5% cash back. For purchases made within the OPEN small business network, the rebate is up to 5%. These numbers last until $15,000 is spent using the card. At this point, percentage rates go down to 1% for general purchases, and 2% for purchases made within the OPEN network.
Just for clarity, I should mention that the title "Cash Rebate Card" is kind of a misnomer. All rebates earned using the card appear as a credit on the cardholder's statement in the month of February. There's never any actual cash changing hands between company and cardholder. This isn't a drawback as much as it is a technicality, but it's worth mentioning.
The card carries no annual fee and a low purchase APR. It's a good card for the business owner who knows that he or she will need to carry a balance from time to time. The low APR makes it manageable to hold a balance for a couple of months without plunging into debt. The card also offers a 0% introductory APR and a 7.99% rate on balance transfers made during the six-month introductory period.
Additionally, cardholders have access to all the services provided under the umbrella of American Express' OPEN program. The cash rebates on purchases within the OPEN network are just a start. Purchases made within this network (at FedEx, AT&T, 1-800-Flowers.com, and others) also earn immediate discounts on top of rebates. Other services provided by OPEN include online account management tools, and access to credit professionals who can help business owners make smart decisions.
The Platinum Business Cash Rebate card from OPEN is a great card for the small business owner who uses businesses (or could start to use businesses) in the OPEN network, and needs a card that allows them time to pay off large purchases and gives them good cash-back rewards. Review Date: 9/4/2006
