With a card aimed especially for college students attending school out of town; Discover’s Open Road credit card helps students earn cash rewards on auto maintenance and gas purchases. It’s useful for the students who are driving back and forth for holidays and college breaks, may as well get some benefits and rewards out of it, while building a strong credit report for making your payments on time.
On all of your gas purchases, you’ll get a 5% rebate. That means every time you stop at the gas pump to fuel up you’re going to save 5% of the total cost. So go ahead, watch the price of gas skyrocket and know you’re going to save more the more you spend. You also get a 5% rebate on auto maintenance costs, so that gives you an added incentive to keep your oil changed on time!
Discover Open Road helps you in other ways too. It’s a credit card that also provides the typical 1% cash back on all purchases you make with the card, when you meet certain minimum spending requirements annually. For each spending level, you get an increase in the amount of cash back you earn; ranging from .25% to 1% on general purchases. (You’ll always get the 5% rebate on gas and auto maintenance costs, regardless of what your annual spending is on the card).
With the needs of students in mind, Discover Open Road also offers an easy way to redeem your rewards. Whenever you’ve accumulated $20 in rewards, you can cash it in. There is no maximum to the amount you can earn with your Discover Open Road card, and as long as you use the card in a three year period the rewards will not expire so you could choose to let them build up to a larger sum before cashing them in!
