Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express
The Gold Delta Skymiles Credit Card offers a great program to accumulate frequent flyer miles with Delta Airlines. The program offers a good point accrual rate, but the fees are high. The biggest benefit of the Gold Delta Skymiles Credit Card is the frequent flyer miles. Cardholders earn 1 mile for every dollar they spend on the card. Additionally, cardholders earn 2 miles for every dollar spent with the card at retailers like gas stations, drugstores, the United States Postal Service, and at Delta Airlines and their affiliates. This is the Always Double Miles program, and can really help cardholders add up miles quickly. In addition, new applicants are given 10,000 bonus miles with their first purchase, and an additional 2,500 if a second card is approved during the application process The annual fee for the card is $85. This fee is waived for the first year, and if you are already a qualified American Express cardholder, the annual fee is $30. There is an introductory APR of 9.99% on the card, but after that the APR becomes very high. The card carries the usual smorgasbord of shopping and travel benefits from American Express. Shoppers take advantage of the Buyers Assurance Plan, the Purchase Protection Plan, online fraud protection and access to exclusive events through Ticketmaster. Travelers can take advantage of additional benefits, some of which are not offered with other American Express Cards. There are significant savings available on car rentals, a $100 travel bonus for cruises or vacations of $2,000 or more booked through American Express Travel Services, travel and accident insurance and lots of other benefits. The card's frequent flyer miles are the biggest benefit. It's high rates and fees make it a poor choice for someone who will need to carry a balance from time to time. The card would be especially worthwhile for someone who already has a low-rate, low-fee credit card from American Express. This allows the cardholder to take advantage of the lower annual fee, and gives them an option for purchases that will have to carry a balance. Review Date: 9/4/2006
