The New Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s American Express Card

by: Debbie Dragon

Macy’s Inc, recently announced that it will be co branding with Bloomingdales and American Express to offer customers a new Macy’s American Express Credit Card. Current customers need not worry as they will be sent a new Macy’s American Express card to replace their existing visa card between now and the end of 2010. Macy’s will be giving them notice before their new card arrives. If you currently have a Macy’s store credit card, not the Macy’s visa card, your card will not change.

When the new card arrives, current holders will keep the same benefits that they currently carry. Their credit limits, current balances and account history will all remain intact and the same. You will also keep all of the same benefits from the Macy’s loyalty rewards program.

Macy’s current loyalty rewards program comes with a no annual fee credit card. Card holders also get exclusive savings events each month at Macy’s. Returns are made easy and can be done most often without a receipt. There are flexible payment plans for some customers. Finally, depending on the amount of money you spend at Macy’s each year you can earn star reward certificates to spend on future purchases at Macy’s. Card holder’s enjoy the savings the card brings when they shop at Macy’s.

Bloomingdale visa card holders who participate in the Bloomingdale’s Insider Loyalty program will also be getting the new American Express Card. Bloomingdale’s credit card reward’s program is also expected to stay the same.

Currently Bloomingdale Visa card holders receive a variety of perks including exclusive travel and entertainment offers. They also receive insider membership savings days each month. They belong to the Insider’s shoe club that saves them money on future shoe purchases. They receive current catalogs and newsletters so that they can stay on top of new products and all the news from Bloomingdales. They also are privileged to free shipping on any on-line orders over $150.00.

Customers who spend at least $1000.00 each year at Bloomingdales get additional benefits. These include rewards and certificates to cash in for free Bloomingdale merchandise, double and triple monthly shopping reward events, 12 free deluxe gift wraps per year and extra travel rewards.

Finally, those customers that spend $2500 in a calendar year at Bloomingdales additionally receive ultimate insider access personalized to you and a special 800 customer service number that they can call for any needs they might have. They also receive unlimited deluxe gift wrapping and free local delivery for purchases. All credit card holders receive additional rewards for using their card outside of the Bloomingdale store. Store credit cards are popular among shoppers who frequent specific stores. Store credit cards tend to offer shopper’s deep discounts exclusive to card holders. There is almost always a bonus for signing up and Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s both have current sign up offers. The nice thing about Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s is that they have branded with American Express so that you can use your card not just in their stores, but anywhere you shop that American Express is accepted.

Keep in mind, if you do choose one of these as your rewards cards overspending can be an issue. People who have store specific credit cards tend to overspend. It is so temping as retailers lure you in with great savings and coupons. They are hoping that you will purchase items you really don’t need, just because they are a great deal. As long as you are careful to purchase only what you t truly need, these cards can really save you a lot of money over time.
