Credit Card Companies Offering Assistance To Hurricane Victims
In the aftermath of Katrina, several credit card companies are offering
special terms and extended payment periods for customers affected by
the devastating hurricane. The customers who are most severely
affected will have extended periods of time to pay credit card debt and
will also get a reduction in interest rates, at least
temporarily. Here are a few of the credit card companies involved
in the relief effort and the steps they are taking to assist victims:
Capital One - Reviewing customers accounts on a case-by-case basis to
forgive past due fees, over-limit penalties, and eliminate interest
fees in some cases.
MNBA - Customers within the impacted areas will receive a two-month
reprieve from payments. In addition, MBNA is eliminating ATM fees
and waiving late fees for customers in the affected areas.
Customers will not be charged for the issuance of replacement cards and
credit limit raises are being evaluated on an individual basis.
American Express - Customers are receiving a one-month grace period and
credit limit extensions of $1000. Hurricane victims will also
receive free replacement cards and PIN numbers.
Bank Of America - Credit card customers will receive a waiver of late
fees and finance charges, and emergency credit line increases are
available. Home loan and home equity customers will be granted a
ninety-day reprieve from payments and fees.
